Organic Candy Treats For Halloween

If your kids are trick or treating this year, they will amass candy; it's inevitable. Last year, we stopped by a dentist's house and was given a toothbrush as a treat. As a public health advocate, I was excited about the toothbrush. My 3 year old, not so much. Most kids don't care about the type of candy they get, but some parents do. In an effort to be green this halloween, I've done a little research on high fructose corn syrup candy alternates. Below are just a few organic treats that are perfect for halloween parties, favors for your children's classmates, or to hand out to mini witches and goblins.

yumearth organic candy lollipops

YumEarth® makes candy with certified organic or natural ingredients. All their products are free of gluten, peanut, tree nut, chemical colors, artificial flavors, and high fructose corn syrup. Candies come in a variety of sizes: snack, individual, family, and bulk. YumEarth® offers lollipops, gummies, sour candy, and artisanal candy. You can purchase YumEarth® candies from its website or in select brick and mortar stores like Whole Foods, Sprouts, and Toys R Us. I love their Organic Lollipops. We have handed them out for the last two years. They are not just tasty, but they are decently priced for organic candy.
surfsweets organic candy spooky spiders

Surf Sweet® uses only natural colors and flavors, as well as organic fruit juice and sweeteners in their candies, no corn syrup. Surf Sweet® candies include a variety of gummies, sour candy, and jelly beans that come in two sizes. Gummy Bears and Sour Berry Bears also come in handy snack packs multipacks. These gluten-free, allergy-free and GMO-free candies are available online and grocers like Publix and Whole Foods. Spooky Spiders are available just in time for halloween.
Pure Fun™ candies are made with 100% organic ingredients. The company has an impressive list of candies like: cotton candy, candy canes, chocolate meltdowns, citrus slices, mint pinwheels, fruit pinwheels, fruit rocks, pure pops, Barrels of fun, and Jaw boulders. The Halloween pack includes six different lollipop flavors and is USDA Certified Organic, Kosher, Vegan, allergy-free, and gluten-free. You can find these organic treats from online retailers and Whole Foods.

angell bar organic chocolate candy barAngels Bars makes organic candy bars free of GMO products and corn syrup. There are currently three available flavors that include gluten free, superfood, and vegan choices. Angels Bars are available online and at Whole Foods and Mother's Market.

torie and howard organic hard candyTorie & Howard hard candies are made of all natural ingredients, with no preservatives, additives, artificial flavors, chemicals, or dyes. These Kosher candies come in four mouth-watering flavors. Torie & Howard candies come in two ounce tins, six ounce handbags, or five pound bulk; single or assorted flavors. You can buy these hard candies online on the company website.

newman's own organics licorice candyNewman's Own Organics has a variety of candies and sweet offerings. The entire product line is made with certified organic ingredients. The chocolates are Fair Trade and Rainforest Alliance Certified™. I can personally vouch for how delicious the chocolate bars, chocolate cups, and licorice taste - so are the cookies, by the way. Newman's Own Organics candies can be purchased online and at retailers like Sprouts and Mother's Market.

If I could hand out apples to trick or treaters I would. Unfortunately, past events have led parents to be suspect of anything but wrapped candy. So for now, I think I'll stick to handing out organic candy.

Below is a list of online retailers where you can buy natural and organic candies; some cater specifically to natural candy and others have a wider selection of sweets.

  1. Thanks for this! I was just talking about alternatives on my facebook page and it's good to know that there are options. My son can't have food dyes, and I know we're not the only one in a similar boat.

    1. Growing up, I didn't have too many friends with food allergies or sensitivities. Now, so many kids are getting diagnosed with them. I'm not sure if the tests are getting more sensitive or something is happening in the environment that is affecting the fetus in-utero. Regardless, eating foods from natural sources is always a good thing.

  2. I love the idea of organic treats for Halloween. I honestly, before this year, hadn't given it a thought, but after I tried some of the YumEarth Organic Lollipops, I really did start thinking about it, because you definitely aren't sacrificing anything with them.

I hadn't heard of any of the other treats you mentioned, but I'd definitely be willing to check them out :)

    1. It wasn't until I had kids that I really started looking at organic options when it comes to food. When I found YumEarth at Sprouts, I was beyond thrilled - an organic treat that's easy on the wallet.

    1. I agree. These will be handy as little treats year-round. Our family has a bit of a sweet tooth and I've been guilty of giving sweets as rewards.

    1. We love Funky Monkey too, especially my mom. We also like UNREAL, which I'll be reviewing soon. I'm so glad that there are alternatives out there; just hoping that they would be more readily available than at health food stores.

  9. Yum! I'm so guilty of eating that terrible-for-you candy (all year... not just at Halloween, ugh), so it's great to know there are tasty alternatives!

  10. Thanks for sharing this! I hate giving out candy at Halloween, and feel frustrated every year about the lack of choices. This year I'm giving out glowsticks and pretzels. If I find the organic candy at my grocery store, I'll give that out, too.

  14. I try to make most of my items I buy organic if possible, but I had honestly never thought about candy. The farms where we live are about 1/4 a mile apart so we go into town to trick or treat, and we don't buy candy. The children do eat candy once a month or so because their Nana sends a goodie box once a month, but I am amazed that I could buy organic candy
