Super Baby Food Review (National Nutrion Month®)

As a first time mom there were a couple of things that I was determined to do: breastfeed and make my baby's food at home. The idea of making food for my son did not occur to me until I received Super Baby Food as a gift during my baby shower. I grew up watching relatives feed cousins, nephews, and nieces baby food that came in a jar. I had no idea that you could make your own baby food. I mean, why not, right? Adults create meals from scratch for everybody else in the family, why not the most vulnerable and food-sensitive member?

About Super Baby Food
Ruth Yaron is the author of this best selling baby food book. After the birth of her premature twin sons, Ruth wanted to find the very best feeding system. So she created one herself. Intended on providing organic, nutritive foods for her twins, Ruth conducted research and experimented with recipes. Her efforts eventually led to writing Super Baby Food. Super Baby Foods is trusted by hundreds of thousands of parents as a reference and guide to making healthy meals for their babies while saving time and money. Topics covered in this book include: introduction to solids, schedule of when to introduce what food, quantity of food your baby should be eating, how to make and store baby food, and many, many more.

    MY THOUGHTS
I could not have survived making homemade baby food without this book. It was my go to resource for everything related to homemade baby food. I know that there are a ton of information online, but having a hard copy of this book was instrumental in my success in making food for my son. It was just more convenient; I had tabs and sticky notes on different locations throughout the book. After receiving this book as a baby shower gift, I looked at it and thought that I could not possibly read the book cover to cover. It was thick, only had a handful of pictures, and had small font. It was chocked full of information and it seemed a bit overwhelming. However, I didn't need to read the book cover to cover to get the information I needed. I read the introduction, speed read some of the following chapters, and skipped some like the chapters on growing your own herbs (I have a black thumb) and Nutrition 101 (I took a nutrition class in graduate school). Of course, there were chapters that I read over and over again. Actually, there were a lot of sections and tables that I read over and over again like Specific Fruits and Vegetables and summary schedule of first foods.

This book was not just a guide on how to make baby food at home, I learned a lot about food preparation and handling as well as basic cooking techniques. There is even a section on fun stuff like making play dough, arts and crafts, and food decorating tips. In addition, Ruth provides a reference section with homemade baby products and accessories, recipes for eco-friendly cleaning products, nutrient tables, and metric equivalents. I loved this book so much that I've lent out my copy (and made sure I got it back) and given it as a gift for first time moms. (They all have that same look as I did when they first saw it, too.) The book was easy to read, it's organized in a way that my brain understood, and although Ruth presents her own beliefs, it didn't seem preachy. This book is invaluable for first time, and even veteran, parents. It also makes a really great baby shower gift.

Thanks to Super Baby Food, one of you will be getting your own copy of the book.
