Aurorae® Yoga Classic Mat Review (Celebrate the Earth)

I love practicing yoga and wish I could start taking classes again. Anyone who thinks yoga is just stretching definitely has not taken a class. There really is a connection between body and mind during practice; it's such a holistic approach to health. I found Aurorae® Yoga while in search of an eco-friendly yoga mat, and I am so glad I did.

About Aurorae Yoga
Aurorae® Yoga began as the result of the passion founder Dennis Ingui developed for yoga.  As a cancer survivor, yoga strengthened his body and provided him with the inner peace of mind he sought. The company offers yoga accessories for yogis at all level. Their product line includes mats in illuminating colors, towels, bags, props, and mat washes. Their website also includes a YouTube video on how to stop slipping on your mat. Aurorae® Yoga mats, accessories, and props are the best reviewed yoga products online.

MY THOUGHTS
I was provided the Violet Classic Mat for review. The description for the Violet mat is "Spiritual, Soothing, Calming, Telepathic, Healing, Relief & Meditative," perfect for someone who just gave birth. These are high quality mats. The surface texture, thickness, and stickiness are perfect for a new practitioner like me. I am not a very tall person, and as a beginner I do tend to move a lot and am all over the place during pose transition, so I really appreciate the extra length the Classic Mat affords. The mat is soft despite its textured appearance. I like the bumpiness of the mat and was hoping that it would help with slippage. Unfortunately, that was not the case the first time I used the mat.

I used the Classic Mat out of the box. I sweat a lot when practicing yoga and can't hold a downward dog for too long without having to wipe my hand with a towel. As much as I would loved to have focused on the focal point icon, I had to overlay a towel to keep from slipping. It's not a statement about the texture and quality of the Classic Mat so much as I just really sweat a lot. I also couldn't jump out of positions because my feet would slip. I then washed the mat to break it in and minimize slipping. Apparently, yoga mats are produced with some resin which is activated by sweat, hence the slipping. The resin is removed through washing and thus minimizes slipping. After one cycle of wash and dry, I used the mat and slipping was definitely minimized. I will wash the mat again and evaluate its performance after another wash/dry cycle.

Although I don't have issues with my joints, the extra support I get with this premium 1/4" thick mat is very much appreciated. The cushiness that the Classic Mat provides helps me balance and sink comfortably during flows. It's especially nice during savasana.

Overall, I highly recommend the Classic Mat. The price point ($49.95) is unbeatable for a high quality mat. Additionally, it is manufactured free of phthlatlates, latex, and silicone. My son likes the mat a lot too. He couldn't wait to try it as soon as I opened the box. As you can see, he has no problems with slipping or holding his poses *smile*.
