Green Toys™ Recycling Truck & School Bus Review (Celebrate the Earth)

We love Green Toys™ and own several toys from this awesome company. I discovered Green Toys three years ago when looking for eco-friendly toys for my son. After my first purchase (tea set), I was hooked. I have included their toys in my son's wish list as well as given them as gifts. These eco-friendly toys are incredibly well made and durable. I love that they are made of recycled milk jugs...we certainly have recycled our fair share of those and it's nice to see them repurposed.

MY THOUGHTS
I can go on and on about how my son loves his trains and trucks and cars. The Recycling Truck and School Bus were no different. He was beside himself when he opened the Recycling Truck. It's not just his favorite color is green, but there is something about little boys and their obsession with garbage/recycling trucks. If you have a boy, I bet at one point or another he ran to the window when the garbage truck passed by or wanted to go outside and follow it. Although my son no longer runs to the window when he hears the garbage truck outside, he does point every single one of them out when we are driving.

I love the details Green Toys™ puts into their vehicles. You can see the recyclables on the side of the truck, the grooves on the seat, and even the radio on the dashboard. My son of course hasn't noticed the effort put in by the designers, but his mama certainly has. I think the pictures on the side of recyclable materials are a great teaching tool for kids. It teaches about what types of consumable goods can be recycled. However, despite 3 different slits on the side for different materials, they all dump into one huge hopper (compartment).

The back door opens and the hopper raises so you can dump contents out. My son loves to put stuff in the hopper and dump them out. He usually puts objects that are way too big to fit in the small slits on the side of the truck so he just uses the back door. I just wished the opening were bigger and placed at the top to mimic the Waste Management truck that picks up our recycling.

There are many features about Green Toys™ vehicles that I really like, as a parent, in addition to them being made from recycled plastic. For one, I don't have to worry about lead ingestion as they do not have paint coatings. Second, the edges are smooth, there are no visible axles, and very minimal visible screws.

Third, packaging is so simple, it's a fitted cardboard box with no twisty ties, tapes, or glues, and it's recyclable. Fourth, all the vehicles we own work great in our carpet and floor; the wheels turn when they move. Lastly, there are no annoying sounds/noise and no batteries needed.

Similar to the Recycling Truck, the School Bus is greatly detailed. Although there are no other moving parts besides the wheels, there is a big opening at the top to put little figurines in the bus as passengers. Just like garbage trucks, my son never fails to point out school buses on the road.

I usually take pictures of my son while he is playing with the toys, but I thought this picture was better. (I suppose monkey see, monkey do is an appropriate caption for this.)

I can not recommend these toys enough. They are well made, durable, eco-friendly, safe, and most importantly, fun.
