My Postpartum-Friendly Swimsuit

I gave birth during the spring and knew that I would not be bikini ready for the summer. Actually, since having Big B, I haven't worn a bikini. I still wear 2-piece swimsuits, but now, I'm all about the tankini with matching bottom. I own one pair, something vintage-inspired, and wanted a different style from that. I was thrilled to find a swimsuit that was cute and sporty. More importantly, it is made of UPF material for sun ptotection.

I discovered SunGrubbies while looking for companies and products to feature for my Sun Safety Series 2012. I had focused so much on the kids' swimwear that I felt I needed to look for something for me. I found just the thing: the Capkini. The minute I took it out of the packaging I loved it. It's exactly what I wanted. Not only did it look cute on the model, but I liked the way I looked in it, too. Since my body measurements were all over the place (having just given birth a couple of months before) and didn't fit the conventional size chart, I emailed Marta and asked for help. She promptly responded and requested the size she suggested. She was right. The Capkini fit great (and did an awesome job hiding my postnatal belly). The boy shorts were a little loose on me, however. I simply tightened them with the drawstrings and problem solved.

As someone who is nursing, I needed a swim top that would provide me with support. The Capkini has a built-in shelf bra that was perfect for this. I didn't feel restricted nor did I have difficulties breastfeeding in this top. It wasn't as convenient as wearing a nursing tank, but it was certainly manageable.

Unlike bikinis or some tankinis, you don't have to restrict yourself to water activities. Since the top does have that sporty look, it can double as apparel for other outdoor activities without being inapropos.

My absolute favorite part about the Capkini is the sun protection it offers. This has been my go-to swimsuit this summer. Actually, it will continue to be my go-to swimsuit until it gets too cold for water activities in SoCal. After that, well, there's always nature walks with the kids.
