We received the Hi-Ya Zapi Toothbrush Sanitizer from Violight to review on this blog. (Or in our case, with the under the sea bathroom theme, a scuba diver toothbrush sanitizer.) Although it's not something you use directly to keep teeth healthy, I like to think of it as a supporting product. It keeps toothbrushes clean so the toothbrush can do it's job of keeping your teeth clean. You might think it's a little excessive, and that may be the case, or that I'm a germophobe. However, given my background in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, I'd like to cover my bases.
Basically, the Zapi uses UV light to sanitize a toothbrush. The specific wavelength that it uses wipes out organisms like Streptococcus, Salmonella, E. coli, Listeria, Staphylococcus, Pseudomonas, and even the H1N1 virus (flu virus). Given that parents remind their kids to wash their hands before eating or provide them with clean utensils to eat with, all in an effort to ensure that what they put in their mouth is safe, why not use a sanitized toothbrush? Plus, this neat little gadget is just plain cool. It looks cool and Big B was very excited to try it out.
Favorite features
- Accommodates a variety of toothbrush sizes and diameters
- Keeps our toothbrush clean by eliminating 99.9% of bacteria found on toothbrushes
- Automatic shut-off
The price point of $34.95 is a little steep. I suppose it's not a bad price to pay for peace of mind when it comes to ensuring that what you put in your mouth and use to clean your teeth and gums is sanitized. Whether you are a germophobe or not, it's worth looking into Zapi and the benefits of sanitizing your toothbrush.
