Operation Smile - Helping children live normal lives

As we get into the thick of the holidays: crossing things off our shopping list, attending social events, and preparing for the big day(s), I want to stop for a moment and feature an organization that helps bring back people's smile. Operation Smile is an international humanitarian non-profit that provides surgeries to children and young adults born with cleft lips, cleft palates, and facial deformities. Word wide, thousands of children are born with a cleft yearly and often times face marginalization because their parents can't afford surgeries. Since its inception in 1982, Operation Smile has provided over 2 million evaluations and 200,000 free surgeries. For over 25 years, the dedicated medical volunteers who travel to over 60 countries make Operation Smile a success.

Operation Smile provides more than just surgery. With the help of volunteers and donors, Operation Smile educates and raises awareness for cleft deformity. It's more than just reconstructing someone's face, it's giving a child confidence and the ability to live a normal life. In the various counties they've worked in, this charity leaves behind education, training, and the ability for locals to continue their mission in transforming lives. There are many ways to support the efforts of Operation Smile, from financial donations to purchasing gifts. Anyone can make a difference. Additionally, CampusBookRentals.com has partnered with Operation Smile through their Make A Difference Program, committing a donation to cover a minimum of 1,000 surgeries. For every book you rent through CampusBookRentals.com a portion of the sales will go to this effort.
